Slate & Tile Roofing

Natural slate, clay and plain tiling laid by hand the traditional way — the craftsmanship that period, heritage and character homes across Hertfordshire deserve.

Traditional Roofs, Laid Traditionally

A slate or clay-tiled roof is a thing of quality — but only when it's laid by someone who knows the craft. Poorly detailed hips, valleys and verges are where roofs let water in and start to fail early.

As a family firm working the traditional way since 1947, laying slate and tile is exactly what we do best. We source the right materials to suit your property, set them out properly and finish every detail so the roof looks right and lasts for generations.

What We Lay

Natural slate

The longest-lasting covering there is — elegant and hard-wearing for 80–100 years and more.

Clay tiles

Rich, lasting colour that holds for over a century — perfect for period and heritage homes.

Plain tiling

The classic small tile laid in the traditional double-lap way for a handsome, dense finish.

Interlocking tiles

Larger concrete or clay tiles — an economical, durable choice for modern homes.

Traditional Craft

Hips, valleys, verges and ridges detailed the proper, time-served way.

Heritage Specialists

The right slate and clay to match period and character properties.

Built to Outlast Us

Slate and clay roofs laid to last generations, not decades.

Slate & Tile FAQs

How long does a slate roof last? +
Natural slate is one of the longest-lasting roof coverings there is — a well-laid slate roof can last 80 to 100 years or more. Re-laying or replacing worn slates on an older roof can extend its life considerably.
What's the difference between clay and concrete tiles? +
Clay tiles hold their colour beautifully and can last well over a century, which is why they suit period and heritage properties. Concrete tiles are more economical and very durable but tend to have a shorter lifespan. We'll help you choose what's right for your home and budget.
Can you match tiles on a period property? +
Yes. Matching the character of an older roof matters, so we source clay and slate to suit heritage homes and lay them using traditional detailing — hips, valleys, verges and ridges finished the proper way.
Do you repair as well as replace slate and tile roofs? +
We do both — from replacing a handful of slipped slates or cracked tiles to a complete re-slate or re-tile. We'll advise whether a repair or a full re-cover is the better value for your roof.
